Brown-headed Gull

Chroicocephalus brunnicephalus

Description:

These gulls were spotted at Pangong Lake (Tsho) (altitude: 14,200 ft) in Ladakh. They're all paired, perhaps this is the season for laying eggs. They're quite restless - scampering for left-overs of tourists. Occasionally rested for sometime, always in pairs.

Habitat:

Cold, windy and high altitude Pangong Lake. Surrounding areas all barren - no vegetations.

Notes:

These gulls in pairs, were very restless either gliding in the wind, or diving, or swimming in the lake, and occasionally resting for sometime. One of them shows slight lethargy, may be the female is waiting to lay eggs very soon
