Purple aster

Aster (genus)

Description:

I was amazed to find this beautiful flowering plant growing horizontally on a sand dune. The main stem was almost 1 meter long. I'm going thru a crash course for NM wildflowers - so I'm not 100 percent sure what this is - any amount of help would be appreciated. This was the only one that I found. Fall Tansyaster?

Habitat:

Spotted at the White Sands National Monument.
