Six-Spotted Tiger Beetle

Cicindela sexguttata

Description:

The Six-Spotted Tiger Beetle is a member of the Kingdom Animalia and the class Insecta. The beetle is normally about 13 millimeters long and has noticeable white mandibles in the mouth area which are used to catch and kill prey. The adult beetles get their name due to the presence of spots on the abdomen, which between more or less than six .

Habitat:

The Six-Spotted Tiger Beetle's habitat is normally in shady woody areas with fallen wood so the beetle can hunt caterpillars and spiders.

Notes:

The beetle's mandible is harmless to humans but when the adult beetle is threatened, it can release a foul smelling liquid to elude an attack. Elizabeth Green
