Viola Pubescens eriocarpa
This bright flower with a hue of electric yellow can be found in every Illinois county. It blooms in late April and early May.
It blooms mostly in central and northern Illinois and is less common in southern Illinois. The habitat they thrive in is a moist deciduous woodland.
I didn't think that violets had bunched inflorescences like that...? Have you tried looking in the Brassica genus?
