Western Skink

Eumeces skiltonianus

Description:

This Blue-tailed skink was discovered near a river bed by a friend. I have read that the blue tail may act as protection from predators. If a predator attacks the tail end of the reptile, the tail can detach and allow the skink to make a clean get-away! http://www.lemonbayconservancy.org/dunso...

Hello. There are several blue-tailed skink species in the world. Cryptoblepharus egeriae is native to Australia's Christmas Island and is not closely related to the Eumeces/Plestiodon skinks of North America.
