Rock Doves (feral pigeons)

Columba livia

Description:

Feral pigeons (Columba livia), are derived from domestic pigeons that have returned to the wild. The domestic pigeon was originally bred from the wild Rock Dove, which naturally inhabits sea-cliffs and mountains. The birds in the pics, are feral pigeons, wich made their nests on the cliffs of Scarborough Heads, Sumner. Pics were snapped before the Christchurch earthquakes, I don't think those cliffs are still standing there, after the December 23, 2011 massive aftershocks.
