Blue Pansy

Description:

Males top front wings are dominated by black and whitish brown. Three stripes are brown and white. The hind wing is predominantly blue. Each side has two circles in brown, black, white and blue. The margins are bordered by white ribbons with black stripes. Females of this subspecies have a larger size and pattern similar to males, but are predominantly brown, white and black. Rarely has traces of blue, the circles are larger and clearer.

Hi Arne.roysland, what a great spotting. There are a few Junonia spp. in our area also, but I have never seen one like this. I like that you were able to show both male and female specimens. Now I'll be hunting for one for my own collection. Regards, John B.
