Great Blue Heron

Ardea herodias

Description:

After hearing upon a Great Blue Heron nest, me and may son decided to head out and investigate. We were in for a treat, as each adult fed nonstop, spearing, flipping... tossing goldfish left and right. Sometimes the adult would fly to the nest after catching one fish, sometimes after 2 or 3. We had to have been within 10 feet of this particular adult. Right place, right time...

I am curious about the Goldfish, were they dumped there or are they regularly seen in Wisconson Lakes?

Thank you, Argy. Yes, I know Bill... haven't talked with or shot with him in awhile, however. Bad health on my end. He helped me locate the Least Bittern this past summer... what a great find. He's a top notch photography and a gentlemen as well. I enjoy shooting with him, as he is as passionate about the wild as I am.
