Griffon Vulture; BuitreLeonado

Gyps fulvus

Description:

These birds almost never flap their wings as it uses up too much energy. They perch on rocks high in the mountains and use up-currents to soar. They feed on carrion on the ground and once they have finished they will fly into a nearby tree to wait for a passing thermal (up-current) to take them aloft.

Habitat:

Open fields near mountains where they live.
