Description:

Rose-breasted Grosbeak Pheucticus ludovicianus The female is about 8 inches. The male and female are very different colored: the female is heavily streaked brown on white above and below. prominent white eyebrow.

Habitat:

Moist woodland adjacent to open fields with tall shrubs and old overgrown orchards.

Haha! They certainly look similar, but this gal has a huge bill, the streaking on the chest is different, and she has a little bit of color on the chest. Neat that it was your first female! I've only ever seen a female, never a male yet!

Thanks again Ashley. I did think it was the largest purple finch I ever saw. Ha! Great I never have ID't the female Red-breasted Grosbeak before.

She is a beauty!
