A palm tree with a horizontal trunk - leaves & flower stalks grow upwards.
Mangrove biome.
Known locally as water coconut, the nipa palm is a monotypic taxon, being the only species in its genus. It is also the only palm tree considered to be adapted to the mangrove biome. It is a common and distinctive sight in the Mekong Delta.
