Thin Strawberry Weevil

Rhadinosomus lacordairei

Description:

This small thin weevil was about 10 mm and looked like a tiny seed pod. It's body tapered at its rear end and elytra were ridged. The whole weevil was a deep reddish-brown with a cream coloured patch on each side. The head and thorax were narrow and elongated. The antennae were black as was the short rostrum.

Habitat:

Spotted on a Goodenia plant in a nature reserve.

Notes:

The weevil is sometimes a pest in Strawberry farms, hence the common name. Family: Curculionidae Subfamily: Aterpinae
