Spilosoma virginica can be variable. Bugguide.net has several photos for you to compare with your spotting. Here is one that shows a similar body pattern; http://bugguide.net/node/view/697096 "Caterpillars very variable in color - beige/yellow/dark red-brown/black. Body covered in long soft hairs (setae) of variable length - some much longer than the others (more than three body segments in length). Often one long hair in center of each tuft. Spiracles white."

Thanks Forest Dragon and Fyn, as you both seem to confirm my thoughts of Spilosoma virginica. Do you know why mine would have a somewhat striped look?

It does look similar to the Virginia Tiger Moth. I can't give you a definate on that though.
