Plain Tiger Butterfly

Danaus chrysippus

Description:

These butterflies also know as African Monarch were on an area of grass next to the beach the other afternoon. They were incredibly hard to photograph as they kept flitting around. It is a common butterfly in Asia and Africa, I have to say that this is the first time we have seen them here in Turkey. Their wings are a lovely orange brown in colour with black edgings and white and black spots. The underside is more of a creamy yellow colour. Their bodies are quite distinctive being black with white spots.
