Yellow Wagtail; Lavandera x

Motacilla flava

Description:

This is a juvenile. There are several sub-species of Yellow Wagtail in Spain, the most common breeder being the Spanish Yellow Wagtail, Lavandera Boyera, Motacilla flava iberiae. Since all juveniles are indistinguishable except under close examination and DNA testing, I will leave this at the species level. As the birds mature the head patterns become very different and the sub-species can be easily determined the following summer.

Habitat:

Reservoir in mountains.
