A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Pelecanus occidentalis
Young juvenile (approx. 3-4 months). Brown and tawny in color.
Beaches and coastal areas.
This bird and a few others are currently being rehabilitated at P.A.W.S. in Hubert, NC. My instructor explained how they fly further south for the winter, but sometimes the juveniles think that the Carolina's are far enough. Unfortunately these animals get caught in the cold and suffer from frostbite and lack of food. We currently have 5 juveniles and 1 female adult. More will probably be coming in later.
