Campsis radicans
Vine with orange, trumpet shaped flowers.
A very lush specimen growing on the edge of a lake.
A favorite of humming birds. Photo 2 shows a flower with a slit in the side. I believe a carpenter bee cut this slit to reach the nectar with its short tongue. When I first moved to the land I live on it was an old pasture that was turning into forest. Trumpet vine dominated. Where there were no trees for it to grow up it had vertical stems about 3 feet tall. It took me years to dig it out of my garden as it spreads aggressively from its roots. Mowing eliminated it from the rest of my yard.
