Suhpalacsa flavipes
Owlflies are dragonfly like insect belonging to the Ascalaphidae family but in same order Neuroptera with Antlions. They considered are closest relative of Antlion. Basic difference between Odonate & Owlfly is their bristle-like antennae which found in Antlions too! Owl-flies are good flier although the y spend most of their time in resting on stem many of them hold their wings spread at rest like dragonflies. They hunt flying insects in their flight and feeding on little insects. Some species of Owl flies are active in Day & Night both. Adults in this family are from medium to large in size though it is recorded that most Owl flies average about two inches in length and they are usually yellow in colour with dark patterns. Adult have large divided eyes it may be the source of their name –"owl fly”! Owl flies are worldwide in distribution.
Widely Distributed throughout India. Very Active at evining & night !
