Ptilonorhynchus violaceus
Grows to just over 30cm, Female - greenish shades with extensive patterning/scalloping all over, brilliant violet blue coloured eyes, (males are rich iridescent purple/blue/black), dark thick beak, light grey legs, feeds on insects, vegetation, fruits, flowers. Call is often harsh, includes rattling & whirring sounds.
Found throughout eastern coastal & hinterland regions of NSW, Victoria and in far north Queensland. This one in village parkland grabbing some food scraps left behind by picnickers.

Thanks LeanneG & all who favourite. This bird has to be one of my favourites just because of the beautiful eyes. They draw you in, the colour is so intense in some birds that it appears to be glowing.
