Buteo swainsoni
Spotting #2,700! When I came across this guy, he was chowing down on a Texas horned lizard (Phrynosoma cornutum). He didn't like me watching him while he ate (I wasn't close to him), so he put the lizard in his talons and flew off to the next telephone pole where he continued to eat it. Was cool to see! You can see the lizard in his talons in the flight shots.
Mixed-grass prairie surrounded by agricultural land.

epic series, ashley!!! love shot #1!
Wow, very nice series
Thanks Jae and Joshua! I can't always do it, Joshua. This one is easy though! Horned lizards are easy to tell from other lizards, and this habitat only has one species of horned lizard :)
Excellent series! Congrats on 2,700. You're probably one of the only birders that identify the hawk's prey to species level!
Great serie, Ashley.
