Burdock

Description:

This large plant (women's size 10 shoe provided for scale) has taken over one of my garden beds. The leaves are large and a bit fuzzy on the underside, and the stalks that they are attached to are a reddish purple.

Habitat:

My garden bed

Notes:

First noticed last year, but came back this year. Difficult to pull out intact, even at a young age.

I waited until it bloomed, and I believe it is burdock!

It does look a bit like some of the images for thistles that I came across. I suppose I will wait to see if it blooms.

Likely a thistle of some sort. They don't bloom the first year, and are incredibly deep rooted.
