Description:

Nests of these ants are large dome-shaped mounds of conifer needles and other. In April and May, swarming occurs, winged males and females (queens) swarm and mate in the air. The fertilized queens will form new societies.

Habitat:

Usually situated in woodland clearings where the sun's rays can reach them
