Calliphora vicina
C. vicina is an introduced species to New Zealand and is known as a blue bottle fly because of the metallic blue-gray coloration of its thorax and abdomen. The blue bottle fly is approximately 10-11 mm in length.
Common name: Blowfly. New Zealand has about 50 species of native blowfly species, many of which are endemic. Several other species have accidently been introduced e.g. brown blowfly, green blowfly, bluebottle blowfly and the hairy maggot blowfly.
