Cecropia Moth

Hyalophora cecropia

Description:

The largest moth native to North America. Wingspan 3 3/4 to 6 inches. Butterfly-like and nocturnal. They have small or no mouthparts and live for only a few weeks. Thanks to the Missouri Dept. of Conservation for the information.

Habitat:

Where forests and open fields meet.

Notes:

This lovely moth was found on our front porch, on the mosquito zapper. It's wingspan was 6". It was having trouble with the wind so we tucked it away in a corner until it could fly away. It was magnificent!
