Ophiogomphus severus
One of the "clubtail" dragonflies as identified by the widely-spaced eyes. The only species in the family Gomphidae that is common along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains.
Along river (Fountain Creek to be precise). Cottonwood and elm trees dominate, with grassy areas in the floodplain.
Clubtails perch mostly on the ground, or close to the ground.
