Amanita rubescens
Fairly large toadstool like mushroom, diameter was maybe 6cm. The colour can vary from pale "flesh" colour (as in pic 4) to a deep rosy brown (pics 1-3). The stem becomes a pink colour when bruised or exposed to the air, hence the name "Blusher". The stem will be white above the membranous ring, and usually flushed below it (demonstrated in pic 3 most clearly). POISONOUS when eaten raw, but best to avoid altogether.
They were growing in a moss-covered grassy area. It was very moist, fairly shaded, they were growing in the vicinity of a big oak tree. Near a small lake.
I would have taken some better pictures, but my phone's camera is fiddly and I had to get back to work! I have another picture of a fallen toadstool that had a reddish tint to the base of the stem (it wasn't very clear though, so did not upload). This is another key IDing feature of these mushrooms.

Found some more info, decided that these are A. rubescens, also known as Blusher.
Thanks rat tumour, I have another picture of a toadstool that had been knocked over, and the bottom of the stem was a reddish colour. I did some research, and apparently that's very classic of A. rubescens! I'll dig a little more, but I think you've probably got it :D
Maybe Amanita rubescens or something similar? A good way to tell is to scratch the stem and see whether it turns reddy-brown
