Paper Wasp

Polistes major or Polistes carnifex

Description:

The large wasps of about 4 cm were bright yellow with brown bands. They were drinking water in a splash zone next to the river. The distributions of both these very similar wasps includes Chiapas, Mexico.

Habitat:

Tropical Forest, dry season, Chorreadero Park, 10 km above Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico.
