Hamadryas feronia
1 1/4" long caterpillar
Rainforest
Cool!! I love Thomas and his pictures!! Catman, sounds also cool ;-)... Thanks again for your challenges!
Yes, none other than your compatriot Thomas Marent (I've had the pleasure of seeing many of his remarkable images at high resolution). Happy holidays, Catman!
Thanks again guys! Apologies though, I am right our of neo tropical butterflies for you to gamble on!
Thanks, Keith!! I hope I can keep my luck in 2013! Do you know who took this my reference picture? Looks like being a Swiss guy.
Thanks Dominik, and good job! Yes, the search function on Janzen's database often doesn't work, but even if it did, you'd see Hamadryas "farinulenta" rather than H. feronia. A friend shot your reference photo in a butterfly house, so here's the same species from elsewhere sans any distracting watermark . . .

BTW, with its caterpillar unknown (at least to me) and adults reported from both slopes of the Ecuadorian Andes, H. fornax is also possible.
I would never cheat....

I earlier wanted to add a link from Janzen, but could'nt find any record at all ( also other genus/species, don' t know why). Then I obviously forget to add the link.
