Common Buzzard

Buteo buteo

Notes:

We think he might have been poisoned. We were able to walk right up to it, he tried to fly off but only made it about 5 m before landing again. We threw a poncho over him and took him to a rehabilitation center, but I never heard what happened since we left that part of Africa the next day.

This bird is the reason I get upset when people call our vultures Buzzards, I have to explain we don't have those here ;-) Really sweet capture!

Hi Ashley, it was good of you to rescue this lovely bird. It looks a lot like a species of Buzzard to me. I can't find an exact match and I'm not very familiar with the African raptors. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in and solve the ID mystery!
