Description:

Sea cucumbers have the odd talent of expelling their respiratory system when threatened and then regenerating it. I got to see this defense mechanism first hand when I accidentally hooked this one near Port Alberni, Vancouver Island. I let him go unharmed after this quick photo. What interesting creatures!
