Rufous hornero

Furnarius rufus

Description:

The rufous hornero can very frequently be spotted along Uruguay; either in the countryside or at the seaside, as in the picture. These birds eats small invertebrates and also fish. They build there nests using mud, grass' leaves and twigs and live in it until the baby birds hatch; then they depart leaving the nest behind, looking for new horizons and the certainty that a brand new nest will be build once more, shortly. Both female and male build and share the nest and sing beautiful loud songs; they may even sing in duet.

Habitat:

The hornero rufous can live in all kind of habitats except for forests, according to the reference book I am using (Olmos, 2011 : 273). They live in South America, mainly in Uruguay, Argentina, southern Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia. It is very common in urban areas as it does not seem to fear urban surroundings and very naturally builds its nest on window sills, posts or any other place they may find suitable.

Notes:

I have already uploaded a rufour hornero spotting but as the place I saw one and the other are completely different, I believe it is a new spotting. What is more, I think this picture in a way shows a completely different habitat than the other; a marine one.
