Calypte annaX costae
Costa's Anna's hybrid that comes to our place every year - note that he has the red color of an anna's the short squat body and white "eyebrow" mark(as opposed to the eye ring) of the Costas - he also has the white patch, albeit smaller than normal behind the gorget and a bit of white "necktie". We get an annual post breeding influx of Costas every year from the end of May on - generally we get females and this lovely hybrid male. I suspect one of the females hooked up with the resident anna's for a second brood after getting here and now this guy keeps coming back. I do rather remember having a juvenile who was singing and not being bothered by the male Anna's
My yard
He is more aggressive than the native anna's
