A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Project Noah Nature School
Class: Ostracoda - Order: Podocopida
At approximately 600 microns (1/40 inch) long it is a veritable giant of the micro-world.
Shallow pond in rural SW Pennsylvania
Some microbes are relatively motionless but most need to be slowed down. I use methyl cellulose. It doesn't harm them, just makes the water thicker so they can't move around as much. Use enough and it brings them to a total standstill.
Super clear shot of one of these. How do you keep them still? Some gel or chemo? Thanks Wiz. !!
Thanks!
Glad you like them. I use a Leica CME microscope and a Motic 2500 digital camera designed specifically for use with a microscope.
Nice pictures! What kind of equipment do you use to photograph your microscopic specimens?
