@namitha ! we cant track the birds by just putting tags but at the recapture of the bird we can able to study the migration, longevity, mortality, population , territoriality, feeding behaviour like things. The ring contains unique individual number with the details of the country and organisation carrying out the ringing programme.

Thank you so much for the info Arun. I have been learning a lot of new things today. I have a question: How can we track these birds later with just a metal or plastic tag. Is it that we can identify them when we capture it again the next time.

Bird ringing or bird banding is a technique used in the study of wild birds, by attaching a small, individually numbered, metal or plastic tag to their legs or wings !! .. Thank you namitha :)
