Flat-backed Millipede

Apheloria virginiensis corrugata

Description:

Large millipede with a more flattened appearance. Dark with bright yellow and orange on the margins of the segments. Bright yellow underside and legs. Rolls up when threatened and will exude a foul-tasting and sometimes irritating liquid (to deter predators).

Habitat:

Temperate forest/campground area. Pocahontas State Park, Virginia.
