Wild Turkey

Meleagris gallopavp

Description:

Most of the Wild Turkey's babies are walking around 20 in a bunch. Sometimes they have a second clutch if the first was not successful. You can walk right up to a mom on her babies without seeing them, they blend in so well with the surroundings. The female (hens) nest in shallow nests on the ground. They incubate them along. This female had others hanging-out with her. She stayed when I came around a bend and they slowly walked into the forest. Mom stayed and I saw her head move ever so slightly and took this picture.

Habitat:

Mowed hayfield.
