Bobcat Tracks

Lynx rufus

Description:

These tracks were found in a large desert arroyo dominated by creosote, mesquite and ocotillo. In the photos you can see two full tracks and one partial track. Claw marks are absent. Tracks were formed previously wet, fine muddy silt. The object in third photo was placed for size comparison. Object is exactly 3 inches in length.

Habitat:

Found in a large desert arroyo dominated by creosote, mesquite and ocotillo.

Notes:

When measuring animal tracks, the substrate in which tracks were made should be taken into consideration since some substrates such as loose sand and very moist muddy silt can distort the animal track size making them appear larger than they really are. These particular prints where made in sandy/muddy silt which was not so moist as to cause a major depression of print into the ground but rather there appeared to be only surface distortion.

Because of the absence of claw marks, bobcat was my first thought. Thank you for your input!

I believe these belong to a feline of some type. No claw marks present. Perhaps Bobcat?
