Icterus galbula
7-81/2 inches. Male has black head, back, wings, and tail, orange breast, rump, and shoulder path. Female has light yellow/whitish underparts and no black head.
Deciduous woodland and shade trees. Before its decline, the American elm was a favorite nesting site for the Eastern bird. These were spotted in the apple orchard.
