Mohammed, that's probably because the moth "overwinters" as a Pupa- meaning it lies dormant over winter.I am not sure how long it remains in the pupal stage.

What a beautiful caterpillar- would have been great if the moth had retained some of the colours ! nice spotting Stephen.
