Dock w/reddening

Rumex obtusifolius

Description:

This dock is possibly producing carotenoids to combat something that is causing leaf damage. Possibly heavy metals, dehydration, salt imbalances...? Interestingly this is the only dock on which I have seen no trace of Ramellaria rubella, a fungus that causes spots, possibly due to arid conditions. Himalayan blackberry and Opium lettuce grow nearby and are unaffected.

Habitat:

Industrial area off of MLK blvd., near Pacific Coast Fruit Company. Signs of homeless habitation nearby.
