Snowy Egret

Egretta thula

Description:

Small white heron. Adults have dark bills with yellow lores (area near base of the bill near the eyes). Nonbreeding adults have bright greenish legs and yellow feet often with some black on the forelegs. Juvenlies usually have more yellow-green on the bill and the legs but can be pale.

Habitat:

Man-made freshwater lagoons.

Notes:

These guys were a bit more shy than their larger cousins but they were found in company with a variety of other birds including Great Egrets and Tri-colored Herons (among others). I was a bit dissapointed to find that that the major web references didn't really have any photos of these birds in nonbreeding plumage.
