Jumping Cholla

Cylindropuntia fulgida

Description:

Cactus with, 1 inch spines that completely hide the stem. The cylindrical segments are light to bluish green. They are about 10 inches long, and 2.5 inches in diameter. This one is about 4 feet tall. It has a single trunk with short branches at the top. The spines on young branches are silvery white.

Habitat:

Sonoran Desert near Apache Junction, AZ.

Notes:

Also known as a Teddybear Cholla.

Looks like jumping cholla to me! I have literally picked segments off of me while hiking. Love the stuff, though!
