Red-breasted Merganser

Mergus serrator

Description:

A handsome male with two others that could be either females or juveniles. I have been seeing these a lot more in the winter. Perhaps they are seeking the shelter of calmer waters like many of the other birds I have seen in the harbor lately.

Habitat:

In a boat harbor protected from big waves by a small island and jetties.
