Ring-necked Duck

Aythya collaris

Description:

Black head, gray beak with white stripe where it connects to head and near tip, brownish black body, distinct white lower body with a swirl. Beady yellow eyes.

Habitat:

This bird is a rare winter migrant in the area I found it. It normally lives further south.

Notes:

Was swimming around very quickly, and stood out like a sore thumb in between the throng of mallards.
