Red Back Spider

Latrodectus hasseltii

Description:

Closely related to the Black Widow Spider (Latrodectus mactans) these are one of the most poisonous spiders but has an antidote causing less deaths. They are black with a red stripe on it's abdomen, though you might see ones with white stripes across it's legs and near the red stripe, these are young red backs. Under the abdomen theres an hourglass shape on it. They are small about 1cm or a large pea. They prey on on any bug from flies to king crickets. They create web called scaffolding web which is silk strads from the web to the ground, whenever a crawling bug goes into it, it leaves the victim dangling in the air.

Habitat:

In backyards of houses, in sheds and in man made structures
