House Finch

Haemorhous mexicanus

Description:

This female Haemorhous mexicanus was one of the first I'd seen in at least a month. This one either looked to be suffering from mycoplasmal conjunctivitis or had survived it.

Thanks Gilma. :) I'm not a vet, though that'd be pretty cool. I actually learn about it from Liam here at Project Noah. It is quite more prevalent in this individual which is has a much more red infection in the eyes. It is supposedly a parasitic bacterium which targets this specific species of birds, and it unfortunately commonly is related to their death. It is hard to prevent it, as it is a wild disease, which makes it sad. After looking at the second link in this comment, I am wondering if this bird is in one of the earlier stages of M. conjunctivitis.
