Little Owl; Mochuelo Común

Athene noctua

Description:

I often see this Owl on this building but it nearly always disappears. Today I tried a different tactic. I got as close as I could without being seen, focussed the camera on part of the building I could see, leaned out a bit more and pressed the shutter. A quick look at the result showed nothing. I then set up the telescope and there it was, looking the other way. At that moment I heard a noise behind me and the owl took a couple of steps back and walked slowly out of sight through the square hole, which runs half the length of the building, as a cyclist raced past! We waited a while but he did not reappear. This is a crop of the picture I first took.

Habitat:

Coastal marshes

Notes:

The second picture is the same one but cropped some more and added contrast and lightening.
