Northern Cardinal, female

Cardinalis cardinalis

Description:

Medium sized bird. Brownish with red on crest, flight feathers and tail. Red-orange bill. Some black on face and under bill. Males are bright red with black on the face. You can see the males here: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/171...

Habitat:

Heavily wooded back yard. Attending the feeders.

Notes:

Part of a large flock of Cardinals.

Thanks! This flock was not at all shy. I was really glad to get her! There were at least 6-8 Cardinals (maybe more). Apparently, the flocking behavior is normal for Cardinals in the fall and winter, though I have not seen such a large flock before.
