Junonia villida
This butterfly is medium in size, brown in colour with eye-pattern on all the wings. There are also the orange and white marks on the top edge of its forewings. The butterfly is a rapid flyer in open space. They like to sunbathe with wings open. They usually fly close to the ground. The Meadow Argus can be found mainly on the Australian mainland, as well as in Tasmania, Kangaroo Island, Lord Howe Island, New Zealand, Norfolk Island, Fiji, Papa New Guinea, Indonesia, Samoa and Cook Islands.
Spotted on a little-used driveway on a school campus which is nestled in the lower foothills of the Cyclops mountains. The campus is surrounded by villages, gardens and disturbed forest.

Thanks Argy (bad connection here tonight!)
Thanks. It was lucky. There was a steady wind blowing on that hill. I am amzed it was in focus.
That's beautiful Scott. Like thick velvet. Interesting range too.
That is a spectacular shot. This species has very minor variations across its range. Here is one example with small variations (mine is missing an 'eye'). http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/103...
