Elongated abdomen and robust thorax, covered with thick hair, length about 2 cm, black to grey in colour with yellow bands below abdomen, stout, spiny legs and three ocelli on the top of the head between their two large compound eyes.
Spotted during a walk at Kebun Raya Cibodas, a 80ha area above 1.400 metres high, mix of botanical park with big trees & palms and surrounded by rainforest at the foot of Gene volcano, Java - Indonesia.
The Asilidae are a family in the order Diptera, the true flies. The name "robber flies" reflects their notoriously aggressive predatory habits, they may deliver intensely painful bites if handled incautiously; They feed mainly or exclusively on other insects and as a rule they wait in ambush and catch their prey in flight.
